8/1/26 What It Means!

A fellow website friend I met online glumpups just released a new ep with their band What It Means! I've been really excited for its release ever since it was announced. It's really excellent, you should give it a listen! It's available on bandcamp and on spotify . They all worked really hard on it and it shows. I've been listening to it a lot ever since it released a few days ago!

And of course since I consume most of my music through cds now, I printed and burned a cd for it!

I hope one day they make an official one I can replace this one with :)

My favorite track is "The Long Way". (I assume) it's about deciding to intentionally take your joy in life into your own hands, and finding what makes life exciting. The lyric "Nothing ventured nothing learned. It's not the wrong way, it's just the long way. Please don't turn around" has really stuck around in my head. I like how it reframes perceived failure as just "the long way", not a wrong turn or a mistake. And that giving up would be like turning back for home despite you being well on your way just because a trip was longer then you expected.

As an update to the last post, that big file transfer finally finished. I was originally migrating to Mega's S4 storage on the account of it only being $10/month for 3tb. However, as files uploaded my upload speed started to get throttled. Eventually it was so slow that it was going to take over 200 days to complete!! If you too find yourself with over 1 million files to store, I really cannot recommend Mega. That was obviously unworkable, so I switched over to Wasabi. They're a bit more expensive at $8/tb, but at least I was actually able to move all my files over to them. It ended up taking about 3 days to complete the transfer to Wasabi.

Also, I'm doing an interesting local "show and tell" event for adults. It's run by someone who seems to be somewhat prolific in the local tech scene. They say you can bring anything, just be ready to talk for 5-7 minute to a group of 10-15 attendees. I heard from others that she likes to integrate play into the things that she does, and that's probably what inspired her to run a show and tell event like this. I signed up for it, and I'm going to the very first one she's running on the 7th! I'm going to be bringing the cd player I built, and during the 7 minutes of me talking about the process and what I learned while building it, I'm going to take it to pieces and pass around the parts that make it up in a circle so everyone can have a chance to see its innards up close. I thought passing stuff around the room would be a creative way to stay on theme with the "classroom" styled gathering.
