November 2024 Dinkytown Shooting

One night at around 2:30am I was watching out my window at a mob of 40 or so individuals who seemed to be arguing or looking onto a fight. Suddenly, someone in the crowd fired a few bursts of shots using an automatic weapon. The mob all bolted away into their cars and peeled away. Police arrived in under a minute to the scene and began blocking off the street.

Later I learned that 3 where injured during the shooting, all of which where outsiders who didn't live in the area or attend the university. One victim was just 17. I recognized the group of individuals as the same individuals who were firing fireworks in the same street at each other earlier that year. A few of the perpetrators related to the fireworks incident where arrested and also found to be from outside the area. In the case of the shooting, despite the block it occurred on having three police cameras, I don’t believe that they found the perpetrator.

Thankfully, in the time since the shooting, the same group hasn't shown up again.
